Restylane® is a clear gel containing a non-animal stabilised hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body, its molecules bind with water to add volume and shape to the skin.

Levels of hyaluronic acid in the body diminish with age, so Restylane is used as a dermal filler to add volume, hydrate and to soften lines and wrinkles.

No pre-testing is required. A local anaesthetic cream is usually applied to the skin for 30 minutes prior to treatment; a dental block may be given for lip enhancement. The treatment does not take long and daily activities may be resumed immediately.

Side effects are injection-related such as swelling, redness, pain, itching and tenderness. These typically resolve after 1 or 2 days and within 1 week after injection in the lips.

The results can be seen immediately with Restylane Touch, Restylane and Restylane Perlane and is dependent upon each individual client.

Follow-up maintenance treatments are needed about every six months, although this may be sooner following an initial treatment.

Restylane Vital requires an initial course of three treatments at monthly intervals with follow-up maintenance treatments about every four to six months.
